Getting The Best Answer

Treat it like describing the fault to a mechanic over the phone. The reg plate lookup fills in your car's exact spec from the DVSA database, which matters because a 1.0 EcoBoost and a 1.5 diesel Focus fail in completely different ways. Then describe what the car actually does: when it happens (cold start, under load, at speed), what it sounds or feels like, what warning lights are on, and any codes your scanner found. "Makes a noise" gets a generic answer; "metallic rattle from the front for the first 30 seconds on a cold morning, quieter when warm" gets a diagnosis.

If you have not scanned the car, that is fine - describe the symptoms and the AI will tell you what a scan would add. If you hit the limit, the guides and the symptom finder are unlimited, always free, and cover most of what the AI would tell you anyway.

The AI is deliberately built never to invent figures: if a torque value, labour time or price is not written in one of our guides, it says 'not specified in our guides' rather than guessing. A made-up torque figure is dangerous, and a made-up price is worthless. When it does quote a figure, the citation tells you exactly which guide it came from.
It is the same traffic-light system used across the site's tools. Green means the fault is not urgent - keep driving and fix it at your leisure. Amber means book it in soon and drive gently in the meantime. Red means stop driving the car now, because the fault poses a safety or serious-damage risk. When the AI is unsure, it is built to choose the more cautious verdict.
