Yes — every Mr Auto Fixer guide is written so a first-time DIYer can follow along without prior mechanical knowledge. The difficulty badge at the top of the page tells you what to expect: Easy means no special tools or skills, Medium means basic spanners and an hour or two of careful work, Advanced means specialist tools and torque settings that demand confidence. If you are working on safety-critical systems (brakes, steering, suspension), be honest with yourself: any doubt means it is worth a trip to an independent mechanic. The savings on a brake job are not worth a crash. For everything else, take your time, work in the order shown, and you will be fine.

After a service on a Renault Captur, the service interval warning and oil change light need to be manually reset using the buttons on the end of the steering column stalk. No diagnostic tool is needed — it takes less than two minutes and works across a wide range of Renault models.

This guide covers the reset procedure for the 2015 Renault Captur, but the same method applies to many other Renaults that have the up and down arrow buttons on the end of the indicator stalk.

💡 No Tools or Diagnostic Equipment Needed This is one of the few resets you can do entirely from inside the car using just the steering column stalks. No OBD reader, no laptop, no garage required. Perfect for DIY servicing at home.

Compatible Renault Models (Same Procedure)

Renault Captur
Renault Clio
Renault Megane
Renault Kadjar
Renault Scenic
Renault Zoe
Renault Kangoo
Dacia Sandero

Works on any Renault with up/down arrow buttons on the end of the indicator stalk.

01

Turn the Ignition On

Insert the key card into the slot (or use the key on older models) and turn the ignition on without starting the engine. You should see the dashboard illuminate and the service required message displayed on the instrument cluster.

02

Navigate to Service Intervals

Using the up arrow button on the end of the indicator stalk (on the right hand side of the steering column), cycle through the dashboard display options. Keep pressing the up arrow until you reach the Service Intervals menu. You will see it showing the current service interval information — at this point it will likely show zero miles or zero months as the service is due.

Pro Tip: If you overshoot, just keep pressing up or use the down arrow to cycle back — it loops around continuously.
03

Reset the Service Interval

With the Service Intervals screen showing, press and hold the up arrow button. The display will start to flash — keep holding the button until it stops flashing. When it settles, it will now show the new service interval — typically 18,700 miles or 12 months on the Captur. The service interval has been successfully reset.

04

Reset the Oil Change Interval

Press the up arrow one more time to move to the next screen — this will show the Oil Change interval, which will also be showing zero as it's due. Press and hold the up arrow again and wait for the display to flash and then settle. It will now show the new oil change interval — typically 18,700 miles or 24 months. The oil change reminder is now reset.

Pro Tip: Make sure you reset both the service interval AND the oil change interval separately — they are two different counters and both need to be reset after a full service.
05

Turn Off Ignition & Confirm Reset

Turn the ignition off and remove the key card. Wait a few seconds then start the engine normally. The service required warning should no longer appear on the dashboard. If it does reappear, repeat the procedure making sure you hold the button long enough for the display to fully stop flashing before releasing.

FAQ

Yes — this is one of the easier DIY jobs you can do on a Renault Captur. No specialist tools are needed and most people can complete it in 5–10 minutes, even with no prior experience. Follow the step-by-step guide above and take your time.
At an independent UK garage, expect to pay £20–£40 for service light reset on a Renault Captur, including parts and labour. Main dealer prices will typically be higher. Doing it yourself can save a significant portion of that cost — the parts alone are often less than half the garage price.
For a Renault Captur, allow approximately 5–10 minutes. This assumes you have the correct tools and parts ready before you start. First-timers should add extra time for reading through the steps and double-checking their work.
Resetting the service light simply clears the reminder — it does not affect your warranty as long as you have actually completed the service. Keep receipts for all parts and fluids used, and log the date and mileage. This is sufficient evidence of servicing for warranty purposes.
