Yes — every Mr Auto Fixer guide is written so a first-time DIYer can follow along without prior mechanical knowledge. The difficulty badge at the top of the page tells you what to expect: Easy means no special tools or skills, Medium means basic spanners and an hour or two of careful work, Advanced means specialist tools and torque settings that demand confidence. If you are working on safety-critical systems (brakes, steering, suspension), be honest with yourself: any doubt means it is worth a trip to an independent mechanic. The savings on a brake job are not worth a crash. For everything else, take your time, work in the order shown, and you will be fine.

After an oil change or service on your Peugeot or Citroën, you'll need to reset the service interval warning light — the spanner icon or "Service Due" message on the dashboard. This takes less than two minutes and requires no diagnostic equipment, just the ignition key and the buttons on your steering column or instrument cluster.

Applies to: Most Peugeot 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 508, Partner, Expert and Citroën C3, C4, C5, Berlingo, Dispatch, SpaceTourer models from 2010 onwards. The exact button sequence may vary slightly — watch the video for your specific model.

Method 1 — Trip Reset Button (Most Common)

This works on the majority of Peugeot and Citroën models with a trip computer button on the steering column stalk or instrument cluster.

01

Turn ignition to position 1

Insert the key and turn to position 1 (accessories on, engine OFF). On keyless-entry models, press the start button once without pressing the clutch or brake.

02

Press and hold the trip reset button

Locate the trip computer button — typically on the end of the wiper or indicator stalk, or a small button below the speedometer. Press and hold it. The display will cycle through trip information.

03

Navigate to the service interval display

Keep pressing (short presses) until the spanner/service icon and the remaining distance or time appears on the display — e.g. "OIL 15000KM" or "SERVICE ---".

04

Hold the button to reset

With the service interval displayed, hold the button for 5–10 seconds. The number will count down to zero, then the spanner icon will flash and disappear — confirming the reset is complete.

05

Turn ignition off and test

Turn the ignition off, wait 5 seconds, then turn back to position 2. The service warning should now be gone from the startup screen and dashboard.

Method 2 — Menu-Based Reset (Newer Models)

Newer Peugeot and Citroën models with a digital instrument cluster or infotainment screen use a menu-based reset.

01

Turn ignition on (engine off)

Turn to position 2 with the engine off, or press the start button once without starting the engine.

02

Access the vehicle information menu

Use the steering wheel buttons or infotainment touchscreen to navigate to: Settings → Vehicle → Maintenance or Service Interval Reset.

03

Confirm the reset

Select "Reset" or "Confirm" when prompted. The service interval counter will return to its full value and the warning light will clear.

Note: If the service light comes back on immediately after resetting, the BSI (Body Systems Interface) may need a full diagnostic reset with a compatible scanner such as a Lexia/PP2000 for older models, or an OBD tool with Peugeot/Citroën support for newer ones.

Common Questions

FAQ

Yes — this is one of the easier DIY jobs you can do on a Peugeot/Citroën. No specialist tools are needed and most people can complete it in 5–10 minutes, even with no prior experience. Follow the step-by-step guide above and take your time.
At an independent UK garage, expect to pay £20–£40 for service light reset on a Peugeot/Citroën, including parts and labour. Main dealer prices will typically be higher. Doing it yourself can save a significant portion of that cost — the parts alone are often less than half the garage price.
For a Peugeot/Citroën, allow approximately 5–10 minutes. This assumes you have the correct tools and parts ready before you start. First-timers should add extra time for reading through the steps and double-checking their work.
Resetting the service light simply clears the reminder — it does not affect your warranty as long as you have actually completed the service. Keep receipts for all parts and fluids used, and log the date and mileage. This is sufficient evidence of servicing for warranty purposes.
